Washington Redskins wide receiver Devin Thomas had the biggest day of his career on Sunday in a 33-30, overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints in Washington, D.C.
Thomas, a second-year receiver out of Michigan State, did all he could to help the Redskins (3-9) come as close as could be to knocking off the undefeated Saints. Thomas caught seven passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns and returned seven kickoffs for 159 yards (22.7 per return).
Thomas caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Jason Campbell in the second quarter, and his 13-yard TD reception in the third quarter gave the Redskins a 27-17 lead.
On the year, Thomas has 23 catches for 287 yards (12.5 per catch) and three touchdowns.
Thomas made 15 catches for 120 yards as a rookie last season after leaving Michigan State after his junior year and being drafted in the second round by Washington.

Second-year wide receiver Devin Thomas expects to see plenty of the field Sunday on the opposite side from long-time standout Santana Moss. Thomas will share snaps with friend and fellow second-year man Malcolm Kelly while Antwaan Randle El is expected to camp in the slot. The team is looking for a second receiver to step up and take pressure off quarterback Jason Campbell, which would in turn help back Clinton Portis and the running game.
Monday, Redskins coach Jim Zorn said he wasn’t sure who would be the second starter at wideout when the offense takes the field for the first time on Sunday.
Thomas made 15 catches for 120 yards as a rookie last season after leaving Michigan State after his junior year and being drafted in the second round by Washington.
The Redskins named Campbell and offensive tackle Chris Samuels as offensive captains for the season.
